PROGRAM: Behind the Scenes of Traditional Publishing
“My publisher never does anything for me!” After 20 years in the retail book business, bookseller Joanne Sinchuk has heard this common author complaint far too many times. The truth is, traditional publishers do a lot for all their authors, newcomer or bestseller, but many times those writers just don’t realize it. In this presentation, Joanne will discuss what the hundreds of people in the publishing business—from sales and marketing, to publicity, to distributors—do to make your book a success. She’ll also give insight into successful book signings and explain the returns process.
Speaker: Joanne Sinchuk is the former owner, and current store manager, of Murder on the Beach Mystery Bookstore in Pineapple Grove in Delray Beach, the only mystery bookstore in the state of Florida. In addition to running the bookstore, Joanne is Director of the Independent Mystery Booksellers Association, and a member of Southeast Independent Booksellers Association, Florida Romance Writers, and Mystery Writers of America. She is one of the co-authors of 100 Favorite Mysteries of the Century, which won the Agatha, Macavity and Anthony Awards for Best Nonfiction Book of 2000. In 2007, she received the Flamingo Award for Distinguished Service from the Mystery Writers of America Florida Chapter.

Because our Treasurer will be out of the country the last half of November, reservations and payment MUST be made by 3pm on Wednesday, November 15. Any reservation or payment received after that time will NOT be logged, and there will NOT be a spot reserved for you at the luncheon. For those paying by check, this is NOT a postmark date. All checks must ARRIVE in Harriet’s mailbox by that date, so please allow 5 days for mailing. Unfortunately, walk-ins CANNOT be accommodated at the November meeting, so please make your plans early. We are sorry for any inconvenience, and we thank you for your understanding.
