DATE: MAY 20, 2017 Florida Chapter, Mystery Writers of America Luncheon Meeting
GUEST SPEAKER: Tim Robertson
PROGRAM: Myth Busting the Fight Scene for Writers
At some point in your Mystery or Thriller manuscript, you’ll likely find your protagonist facing the wrong end of a weapon — or a fist. Want to write those scenes with greater detail and accuracy? Award-winning martial artist and self-defense instructor Tim Robertson will give you the information you need to pen a fight scene that has punch. With his presentation, “Myth Busting the Fight Scene for Writers”, you’ll learn about situational awareness, “myths” about fighting, survival techniques, and more.
Mr. Robertson asserts that “the absolute best self-defense skills are 90 % mental.” His presentation is based on real life professional experience, studies, and on-going research in the areas of personal safety and self-defense. Not only will his demonstration give you what you need to write a better fight scene, you’ll take away some real-life self-defense tactics.
Speaker: Timothy Robertson began his training in the Martial Arts in the early 1970’s. He is a Martial Arts Master and holds black belt rankings in Aikijutsu, Karate and Jujutsu. He is an inductee into the World Karate Union Hall of Fame as Master of the Year 2002 and the Action Martial Arts Magazine Hall of Fame 2003. In 2008, he was awarded Police Tactics Instructor of the Year by Gold Coast Martial Arts, and in 2009 he was honored by the IFOJJ Martial Arts University Legion of Honor Award for over 35 years of martial arts contribution.
Mr. Robertson is a former certified behavior management instructor, teaching verbal de-escalation techniques and non-lethal control techniques. He is a licensed security officer with the State of Florida (D&G license). He runs and is the lead instructor for the Certified C.O.B.R.A. ™ self-defense training center in Fort Lauderdale, FL — a police academy for civilians. Over the years, he has instructed thousands of men, women, and children to defend themselves by using his proven simple methods that anyone can learn in a very short time.
