PROGRAM: Proven Social Media Book Launch Success Strategies (that cost nothing!)

How do you help people discover your book? How can you draw attention to your writing? What websites can help and how should you spend your time, attention, and money? These questions, and more, have stumped authors for decades. Whether you are traditionally or independently published, the truth is, that the success of your book sales rests on your shoulders, and marketing books can be a frustrating and sometimes career-killing task for many authors.

While there are no simple answers to these tough questions, there are some proven strategies you can use to launch your first, or next, book successfully using a simple Facebook formula that costs nothing. During this presentation, April O’Leary, author and hybrid publisher, will show you exactly what she has done to launch six first time authors to #1 in their category on Amazon this past year. While there are no shortcuts to a successful career as a writer, this is one tool you’ll want to have in your book marketing toolkit.

She understands how exciting it is to launch your first (or second or third…) book and how important it is to have the right team to guide your book’s birth into the world. Because of her knowledge of the industry trends, titles released by O’Leary Publishing frequently achieve top rankings on Amazon. She is on the board of the Florida Author’s and Publisher’s Association. December 14, 2019 Monthly Meeting of FMWA

DATE: DECEMBER 14, 2019, Florida Chapter, Mystery Writers of America Lunch Meeting

PROGRAM:  JOINT FMWA/FRW HOLIDAY PARTY!

happy holidays

Program:   ‘Tis the season for our annual Holiday Party…and this year, to make it even more fun, we’ll be joined by our friends at Florida Romance Writers! Help us celebrate the holidays and the end of 2019 with lots of food, fun, and fellowship. Party activities include:

  • Buffet Luncheon with a Holiday Theme
  • Cash Bar sponsored by Florida Romance Writers
  • Tacky Holiday Finery Competition…wear your most outlandish holiday attire for a chance to win a bottle of wine courtesy of FRW
  • Gift Exchange…participation is optional, but if you’d like to take part, bring a wrapped gift valued at no more than $25. Always popular are gifts of wine/liquor, writing-themed items, and anything with flamingos! (NO books, please – we’re all writers, and we have plenty already!)

In addition to the fun, we’re also keeping the Spirit of the Season by helping out a good cause with a literary theme. Bank of Book is a mom and pop used bookstore in Ventura CA that has been providing gifts of books to those families who’ve lost everything in the recent wildfires. But they’ve been beset by troubles of their own while they try to help. We’ll have fliers at the party which will explain how you can assist all these folks in their time of need. Feel free to bring a few dollars donation to the party, which we’ll collect and send on to Bank of Book. We’ll also have mailing instructions if you’d like to donate books for distribution to the fire victims (this is an “on your own” project–please don’t bring books to the party!). Finally, we’ll have a link to Bank of Book’s GoFundMe page if you’d care to help them in their legal battle.

You’re welcome to bring a spouse/friend/SO to our gala as your guest. And, as FMWA’s gift to you, for the Holiday Party everyone pays the FMWA member rate of $25. (See instruction below for link. From the drop down menu on the signup page, chose either “MWA Member” @ $25 or “2 Members” @ $50 if you’re bringing a guest. FRW members, sign up as a member but please add “FRW” after your name.)

GUEST SPEAKER: Victoria Landis

PROGRAM:  Editing Improves Everything

As the ways of publishing a book have expanded and changed, so have the way editors interact with their authors. Victoria Landis began editing other authors after spending ten years in a tough critique group, and writers began to ask if she’d edit their work.
