Alan OrloffAlan Orloff’s thriller, PRAY FOR THE INNOCENT, won the 2019 ITW Thriller Award for Best E-Book Original. His debut mystery, DIAMONDS FOR THE DEAD, was an Agatha Award finalist; his story, “Dying in Dokesville,” won a 2019 Derringer Award; and “Rule Number One” was selected for THE BEST AMERICAN MYSTERY STORIES 2018. His first PI novel, I KNOW WHERE YOU SLEEP, was released from Down & Out Books this week, and he’ll be appearing at Murder on the Beach next Saturday, Feb 22 at 5:00 pm.

GUEST SPEAKER: Dr. Karen Dodge
Program: “Personality Disorders: The Weird, the Wild, and the Wacky”

What’s the difference between a psychopath and a sociopath? A narcissist and a borderline? Just what is a personality disorder, and what (if any) is its relationship to crime? How can you create realistic characters who have personality disorders? Using case examples from her practice and research and from popular culture, a renowned expert will discuss types of personality disorders and what drives these individuals.

Karen DodgeKaren Dodge, Ph.D., is Director of Neuro-rehabilitation at Caron Renaissance, a nationally-leading addiction treatment facility located in Boca Raton. She is a specialist in the treatment of dual diagnosis (addiction coupled with mental or personality disorders) and in the science of the addicted brain. Among her extensive background in treatment and research, she has participated in a research project on the brain activity of serial killers. Dr. Dodge holds a Ph.D. in social work from Florida International University.
